Christian Walk

We as Christians should have a different walk than the lost people around us. In Ephesians we find several passages dealing with our day to day living here on earth. Let us look to Ephesians.

Eph.2:[2] Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

As a lost person we followed the ways of the world. Sinners bound for an eternity in Hell. Not caring for God, the things of God or the people of God. Walking blindly in step with the world. Caring about nothing but the things of this world without consideration for eternity. Looking out for number one and self gratification. Under the influence of our father the devil.
Here the lost are called the children of disobedience. In other verses also referred to as children of the devil and children of wrath.
We who have trusted Christ as Savior have no business any longer walking with them. We have a different Father, a different destination and different purpose.
We should walk according to the course of Heaven, according to the Father’s will and be the children of obedience.

2:[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.
[10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Having now been saved by His grace through faith we have become a new creature. Being created to bring honor to our Father through our good works. Christians do not work to GET to Heaven but because we are GOING to Heaven. Manifesting God’s love by our actions. God has left us in the world that we might show Him to the lost. We now become an expression of God’s love for mankind.

Eph.4:[1] I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
[2] With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
[3] Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

We now being on the path to Heaven should walk like it. We were unworthy but now through Christ we are made worthy and have a responsibility to walk like it. Not being proud or gloating but in lowliness and meekness. Not the drawing of attention to ourselves but by drawing attention to the Lord. Not giving up on the lost or hope but constantly exhibiting the love of God. Enduring the ridicule and rejection always striving to show Christ to a lost and dying world.
We walk with our brethren for the glory of God and not ourselves. Being at peace within the body as Christians belonging to the same body.

4:[17] This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
[18] Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
[19] Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
[20] But ye have not so learned Christ;
[21] If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
[22] That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
[23] And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
[24] And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
[25] Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
[26] Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
[27] Neither give place to the devil.
[28] Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
[29] Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
[30] And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
[31] Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
[32] And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

We no longer under the influence of the devil according to our own thinking. The lost suppose they are thinking for themselves not knowing their thinking is jaded by the prince of the air and not being in their right mind. We are to not walk like them but walk having been enlightened by the Spirit. Not walking in ignorance or our own way.
The first step being putting off the old man. No longer being driven by the lust of the flesh.
We do this by changing the way we think.
Not just a putting off but a putting on also.
The putting off would be to stop lying the putting on would be speaking truth (Jesus Christ) to those around us.
The putting off not holding a grudge, not giving the devil an opportunity and not stealing.
The putting on would be working and giving to those in need.
The putting off would not letting corrupt communication out of our mouth (cursing swearing condemning).
The putting on the speaking of good things such as the gospel and encouragement.
The putting off those things which bring sadness to the Holy Spirit, bitterness wrath, anger and complaining, evil speaking and malice.
The putting on of kindness, tenderhearted, forgiving.

Eph.5:[1] Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
[2] And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

We as Christians should walk in love. God extended His love to us while we were enemies to Him. Are we to walk towards the lost with hatred seeing that Jesus died for their salvation as an expression of His love?
Jesus gave His all because of His love.

[8] For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
[9] (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
[10] Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
[11] And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
[12] For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
[13] But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

We should walk as light. Illuminating by contrast the evil deeds of the lost. Walking doing good things, doing what is right and as an exhibition of truth. We are Jesus to the lost world in all that we say or do should manifest Jesus Christ to those around us.

[15] See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
[16] Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
[17] Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
[18] And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
[19] Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
[20] Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
[21] Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

We are to walk cautiously knowing what God wants us to do living a godly lifestyle making full use of the opportunities God gives us to show Him to the lost world.
Being a happy and grateful people, being of one accord and working together for the glory of God.
