Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day

Prov.1:[8] My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

There is perhaps no one in the world who can quite lay down the law as a mother.
The Bible instructs us to keep the law of our mother. She teaches her children right and wrong and does her best to make sure as they face the world they know how to act and treat others with respect.

Prov.4:[3] For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

There is no love like a mother’s love. It is the closest thing on earth to God’s love.
It is unmerited given to her children solely on the basis that they are her children. You don’t have to be smart or good looking to receive your mother’s love. You can be wayward and mean but your mother still loves you. She wants only the best for her children. Like God’s love a mother’s love is sacrificial she is willing to work long hours and do without so her children can have. A mother’s love is tender and compassionate her kiss can heal everything from a scraped knee to a broken heart. A mother’s love brings comfort to the sorrowful spirit.

Prov.10:[1] The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

No one feels the pain of a wayward child quite like a mother does. Many sleepless nights spent in prayer and concern for the things her children are doing or what she thinks they might be doing. Always a concern in her heart for the lives of her children.

Prov.19:[26] He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

No one quite feels the shame of a child’s actions quite like a mother. The father thinks oh well I taught them better but the mother feels the pain and she thinks in her heart how did they go so wrong? What did I do wrong? How could I have done better? How can I get them to do right?
A mother internalizes the wrong her children do and never stops being concerned for what they are doing and the choices they make.

Prov.23:[22] Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

Mother’s are special and when they become old and feeble then we must remember it was her that fed us, changed our diaper, taught us to walk, spent many a sleepless night caring for us when we were sick. It was our mother who loved us with the unconditional love.

Prov.30:[11] There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.

I believe we have entered this generation as evident in the news on a daily basis. We have raised a generation of ungrateful children who rather than blessing their mothers they curse them. You would be hard pressed to find people who respect their elders any more. Children do not have any self respect much less than respect for their parents. Unfortunately, in a lot of cases parents act in such a fashion it seems they deserve no respect. The moral decline of this nation started in the homes of its people. Most of whom claim to be Christian.

11 Timothy 3:[1] This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
[2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
[3] Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
[4] Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
[5] Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
[6] For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
[7] Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

I want to focus on the sign of without natural affection in verse three. We are constantly reminded of this by watching the news. Mothers abandoning their children. Mothers throwing their children in dumpsters. Mother killing their babies before they are born. Children hating their parents. A people hating their own nation.
Yes indeed we live in a world without natural affection. Perilous times are here. The only hope is for those who call themselves Christian both mothers and fathers to seek God and turn from their wicked wa
