The Word

The word of God has given us many adjectives describing itself. Let us look at a few this morning.

It is the word of truth.

Eph.1:[13] In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Just as the devil is the father of lies and liars God is the Father of truth. As the apostle said we are not following after cunningly devised fables but we are following after truth. The gospel is the only means of salvation for mankind. If something directly opposes the word of God it is a lie and is from the devil.

2Cor.6:1-10

[7] By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

We show ourselves the child of God by manifesting the Bible in our daily lives.

2Tim.2:[15] Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

All of the Bible is the word of truth but not all of the truth is present day meant for the individual truth. The truth must speak to whom is was given and the man of God must be equipped to rightly divide the word of truth.

The word is the word of reconciliation.

2Cor.5:18-21

[19] To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

The word given is the only means by which a sinner may become one with God. The debt of sin paid and the books balanced. Our own actions cannot cleanse away our sin or debt created by the sin. We have earned death. But through the shed blood we have been reconciled.

The word is the word of faith.

Rom.10:8-10

[8] But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

This word when spoken has the power of the Holy Spirit in it. A man either hears it or rejects it. To be received requires faith. To hear requires someone speak it. Man is born with the knowledge of God and through the darkness of his own heart begins to disbelief in God. The word given breathes on a man’s heart and it is the individual who must believe or reject this word of faith.

The word is the word of life.

Phil.2:14-16

[16] Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

The word of God is the word of life. The law could not give life but the word of the gospel of salvation gives life. It takes that which is dead in man and the Holy Spirit breathes through the word preached and man is re-born. That is the resurrection within. It is only through the word. The law could only tell a “dead” man how to order his steps but it had no power of regeneration but the word of salvation is life giving.

The word is the word of faith and good doctrine.

1Tim.4:1-6

[6] If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

It is the word of good doctrine. Within the pages of this Book a man can find how he is to believe, how he is to teach, how he is to live in relation to God, other and himself. It is within the pages God has revealed Himself and His will to men.

The word is the word of Christ.

Col.3:[16] Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Often we think of the words of Christ and automatically categorize the words of Christ as being wholly contained within the four gospels. It is ALL the word of Christ. From Genesis to Revelation.

The word is the word of God.

1Thes.2:[13] For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

The word given to the Apostle Paul and preached to the Gentile world was given by God to him. If it is the word of man then it will fail. In order for the word to work effectively it must be believed and believed as it is , the word of God.

The word is the faithful word.

Tit. 1:1-9

[9] Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

The word is faithful. If God has said it you can take it to the bank It is a certainty. God is not a liar and will fulfill His word as promised. The word will never let you down. The Bible says that he who believes will never be ashamed. You may have every confidence in the word of God.
