This morning let us look at the why Jesus died.
Of course the foremost and most addressed is the certainty that Jesus died for our sins. If not for the shed blood of Jesus the debt I owed for my sins would not have been met and I would have to pay for them through everlasting destruction. But I do not have to pay for the payment has been met.
1Cororinthians 15:[3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
The second reason Jesus died is that I might not only have payment for my sins and not receive the punishment I so richly deserve but that I might receive eternal life. I no longer am worried about everlasting death because Jesus death has provided me with the hope of eternal life.
Titus 3:[7] That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Not only did He die to pay for my sins and that I might have eternal life but through His death He now makes continuous intercession for me. He is my advocate with the Father everyday.
Romans 8:[34] Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Not only did He die for my sins giving me eternal life and now makes intercession for me to the Father but He provided that I can have eternal fellowship with Him. Notice in the verse He lives with us not only in eternity but in the here and now.
1Thessalonians 5:[10] Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
Not only did He die for my sin, give me eternal life, make intercession for me and provide for eternal fellowship with Him, He also died so that He may be the Lord of my life. He paid for me and I now belong to Him. I am the possession of Jesus Christ. He indeed died that He might be our Lord.
Romans 14:[9] For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
Not only has He died for my sins, given me eternal life, makes intercession for me, walks with me and is my Lord but He died for me that I should live for Him.
2Corinthians 5:[14] For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
[15] And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
How about you this morning? Have you accepted the gift of God’s love? Have you received the forgiveness? The eternal life? The intercession? The fellowship? The Lord as your personal Lord?
If you have are you living for Him?
Finally, do others see Jesus in us? He died so that others might see Him in us.
Galatians 2:[19] For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
[20] I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
[21] I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
